Snatched Hope

Ouch! If you know what it takes to much inner activities is's more than an "ouch" when hope is snatched.

I grow few orchids in one corner of my yard. I'm always happy to see them blooming. I count every bud in each stem -- each bud is a sure promise of a blooming flower --but not always.

To hope for a bloom when you see a bud is not even a pure hope. A pure hope is expecting something which nothing is seen yet. Hoping for rain when you see dark clouds is not... but still we call it hope, pure or just plain, we hope for we know nothing is sure in this world. Anything could happen.

Yesterday, I was proud to show dear husband of the stems of buds of my orchids.

This is how they looked this morning! A bird came and fed on them. Unpleasant surprise. A real disappointment. I felt more than a pinch in the heart, a punch in the stomach, and my jaw tightened.....and this is just all about flowers I was expecting to see.

Everyday the world hopes for more than just flowers. Countless people experience more than a pinch in the heart.

That's why we are taught from the old to put our hope on something steadfast, sure and unfailing.

"..... put your hope in the LORD, for with the LORD is unfailing love and with him is full redemption. "
Psalms 130:7

"There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off."
Proverbs 23:18

"I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,...."
Ephesians 1:18

"..the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory."
Colossians 1:26-27

"Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God."
1 Peter 1:21

"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see."
Hebrews 11:1
