Delighting Oneself

I was awaken one rainy morning by a rather loud chirping bird. This is the view from the balcony of our room. Our mango tree is always full of birds. But this particular bird got me curious. It sounded different so I went out to check with the camera at hand, ready to find a beauty.

Before you scroll down to the second picture, I suggest you play "where's waldo" first.

Did you find our loud morning greeter yet?

Maybe this closer shot will help.

Zooming in.......

Ah ..... there it is!

Whoa! A beauty indeed!

I was simply delighted. What a fresh and beautiful morning!

Then, these verse came to mind.

Delight yourself in the LORD
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Psalm 37:4

What does it mean to delight in the Lord?

I looked up a dictionary and this is what I found:

Delight (n)-
1. pleasure, happiness, rapture, enjoyment, joy, gratification
2. something that that gives joy or pleasure

Delight(v)-
3. please, gratify, cheer; charm, fascinate, enchant, amuse.
4. revel; take great pleasure in, take delight in

Aren't they all positive words? Oh, how I love this verse! He's not a "kill-joy" God after all. He's in fact a joy-giver!

These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.
—John 15:11

For his anger is but for a moment,
and his favor is for a lifetime.
Weeping may tarry for the night,
but joy comes with the morning.
—Psalm 30:5

You make known to me the path of life;
in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
—Psalm 16:11
