Finding A Safe Place

My 10-year old daughter, Naomi, posted something on her blog on Friday that I never expected to be relevant the next day for those who live in Chile.

Please pause for a moment to pray for the people affected by the latest earthquake. There are warnings of tsunami around the Pacific. May all of us find our safe place and security in God's hand.

I'm not a professional photographer but I always carry a camera with me. Mine is an ordinary digital camera but it has never failed me. I like the way it presents just the way nature does.

These pictures were taken during my recent trip to Penang, Malaysia. I just love its the gorgeous sky!

"There is one spectacle grander than the sea, that is the sky; there is one spectacle grander than the sky, that is the interior of the soul" ~Victor Hugo

Have a blessed weekend.

Thank God For Trials....

Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
James 1:2-4

This verse is sometimes hard to swallow. But it always comes to mind. Just like troubles in life, they come no matter how we avoid them. So better welcome them with a brave heart......for no one is "troubleproof" in this side of life.

I thank God for all the trials I've been through and the challenges I'm facing now. They made my faith stronger. I don't ask for them but I know they come with a purpose. I recall that each time I have trouble I'm drawn closer to Him, and each time I am in great need, miracle happens.

Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
James 1:12

I thank God for His grace that abounds especially in times of trials and persecution. His strength made me endure.

And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.
2 Corinthians 12:9

I thank God for His comfort in times of sorrow. I continue to praise and give thanks to Him regardless of my circumstance. "Weeping may remain for a night but rejoicing is sure to come in the morning".

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Psalm 34:18

I Thank God for He is gentle with His dealings with me, though many times I fail and fall short from His standard. If I fell seven times, He would pick me up eight times. That's how abundant His patience is for me.

A bruised reed he will not break, and a faintly burning wick he will not quench; he will faithfully bring forth justice.
Isaiah 42:3

I thank Jesus for His comforting words. His loving character is so revealed in His words. I take comfort in His promise each time I'm weary and tired or just feeling down.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
Matthew 11:28

The Door and His Measuring Tool

I revisited my old journal.
I got hooked on the page dated August 3, 2005, where I wrote...

The Lord is JUST.
This doesn't mean that He shows equality with uniform attention to all.

He meets us, each according to our needs.
He honors us according to how we deserve.
He rewards us according to our faithfulness.

He has a perfect measuring tool called GRACE.

Help In Times of Trouble

I thank you Lord for you always come right there to rescue me from any trouble. You lift me up from feeling so low this week. I've seen your strength carried me though the days when I was physically and emotionally exhausted.

I lift up my eyes to the hills - where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.

I thank you for keeping me from making bad decisions . You watch my every step. You discern my thoughts and Your Holy Spirit convicts me if I regard iniquity in my heart or entertain any thoughts that are not pleasing to you.

He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber;...

Thank you Lord for your protection upon me and my family. Thank you for healing dear husband and my 2 daughters from symptoms of flu.

The LORD will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life. Psalm 121:1-7

I thank you Lord for once again You've shown me how true You are to Your word and indeed You are my present help in times of trouble.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble .
Psalm 46:1

Friday Flashback: Travel Light

The past week when I wasn't blogging I did a lot of housekeeping. I sorted all clutters hidden under the stairs. I noticed how many suitcases we accumulated over years of traveling. I sorted them all, checking each of its content, labeling for convenience, but my mind went wild back to the days when we made our first step of faith out of our own home country.

I remembered how shocked I was when dear husband gave me only one suitcase to pack all my belongings when we decided to live overseas in 1998. And I was even more shocked when I heard I was to share that with my 5 year old son. His would be full of books and all our important document.

What about the wedding gifts? My scented candle collection? My baking paraphernalia? My.... My world suddenly was compacted to a suitcase. So, we left our country with our very few belongings. Dear husband was right. We boarded on 4 flights before reaching our destination and it would have been more exhausting had we not agreed to bring not more than that.

The family grew over the years moving from one country to another. The number of suitcase also multiplied but not quite much for five people. I know, anytime we need to move to whatever country (who knows?) we'll have to squeeze everything into them again.

For now, we are happy settling down in our host country. There is always the desire to accumulate more things, beautiful things that this world can offer. But I must have to remind myself that even if I' were not to move again I'm only a pilgrim here on earth and I'm not to store up treasures for myself here.

This is all what I had in mind, never noticing that I finished the work in shorter time than expected. I gathered 2 sacks of stuff to be given away. I felt light. My heart was again emptied with cares of this world. But I know it will be easy to throw things again behind that curtain... so this "work" must be done regularly.

.....for we are all pilgrims of this world......

"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
Matthew 6:19-21

Fill My Cup Lord

Fill my cup Lord, I lift it up, Lord!

Come and quench this thirsting of my soul.
Bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more.
Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole!

Chorus from Fill My Cup, Lord
by Richard E. Blanchard, Sr.

This is the chorus that is played repeatedly in my head right now. I was in a rush to get things done and it always happens not just today but most of my days. Life can be oftentimes draining. And it shouldn't be, right?

Please join me for tea with other ladies in my other blog. This light talk that I share with my friends has always made my heart light.

"Life is a cup to be filled, not drained."

Thank God For Friendship

"A friend loves at all times.."

Thank you Lord for blessing me with friends who are always there to remind me of Your love.

"Are you upset my little friend? Have you been lying awake worrying? Well, don't worry...I'm here. The flood waters will recede, the famine will end, the sun will shine tomorrow, and i will always be here to take care of you."
~Charlie Brown to Snoopy~

Thank you Lord for friends who bring encouragement to my life.

"If ever there is tomorrow when we're not together..there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. but the most important thing is, even if we're apart..I'll always be with you."
~Winnie the Pooh~

Thank you Lord for friends who see beyond my present weakness and believe in me that I can be better; friends who embrace my failure and cheer on my potential.

"Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another, "What! You too? I thought I was the only one."
~C.S. Lewis~

Thank you Lord for bringing friends to my life with whom I can share many things in common. Friends of kindred spirit, they're such a joy to have. Their friendship reminds me that we have One Creator.

"Greater Love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends".
John 15:13

Thank you Lord for You are my Friend and for showing me an example of how to be one.

I am a companion of all those who fear You, And of those who keep Your precepts.
Psalm 119:63

Act of Kindness

I received this package yesterday from a friend who lives miles and miles away from where I am. Can you imagine how I was dancing with joy when I got hold of it? I grabbed my camera and took a picture of what's inside; a lovely book and a pair of earrings. This is something worth sharing about: simple joys of women! And my friend knows that very well.

Aren't those teapot earrings lovely?

More than the things she sent me, what touches my heart was the dedication she wrote on the book. Words of affirmation. My friend's heart is like a fountain full of that.

Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
Proverbs 16:24

"It's simple acts of kindness that women remember", she wrote, and I totally agree with her. This act, my dearest friend, will be remembered.

So, that afternoon I had a restful time browsing the book and was inspired to add a bit of excitement to the Tea Talk meme that I host every Thursday. As we share about the kind of tea we're having, let's try sharing a bit about our teacup/mug. What color is it? Is it chipped by time? Is it a treasure found in 1-dollar store? Oh, I already look forward to hear about your teacup.
So, see you on Thursday for aTea Talk.

First Lovely Monday of Love Month

A Simple Woman\

Monday, February 1, 2010

Outside my window...
Lovely morning with 2 tents pitched in the yard.

I am thinking...
how time flies. January swiftly past by.

I am thankful for...
how God's strength gracefully carried me through the whole busy month. I almost crashed towards the end but prayers of friends picked me up before I fell.

I am wearing...
bright green shirt, gray color capri and a new hair-cut.

I am hoping...
to continue a restful scheduling that I had last week. I tend to burn candles from both ends.

I'm reading....
my son's poem that he wrote last week. I was so blessed to see it the first time and I just love reading it again and again.

The Zenith

In the Great River of Fire
With its flames always in a flurry
There is a Place many Men strive to reach in a hurry
For a Great Price may be received
But only to Those who believe

In the Great Tree of Immortality
A single bite of its Fruit one can live for eternity
This Great Tree is the Zenith
Some say It is real, to others, a myth.

To cross the River of Flames, One must not be afraid
For on the Fire a Great Bridge was laid.
At the Great King's Command
The Great Prince went straight at hand.

To build the Bridge, it was not simple
To finish the Work, He must be humble
He completed the Work at the cost of His Life
So that everyone may have Eternal Life.
Truly Great was His Sacrifice
But His Great Deed alone would suffice
To Save every Man to Eternal Life.

I'm pondering on.....
this verse in the Bible:

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
Romans 12:12

I need to keep this in mind until it becomes an attitude.

I am hearing...
DH and the campers' chattering while learning different kinds of knots.

From the kitchen
fried egg and homemade buns for breakfast.

Around the house...
camping gadgets and many other clutters. Need to do de-cluttering after sports today.

From the learning room....
kids will have show and tell about their favorite trees. I heard one prepared a power-point presentation.

One of my favorite things...
thai massage

A few plans for the rest of the week:
make a new bulletin board for the learning center, organize pictures in my desktop, send emails, and revisit my diaries!!!!

Pictures I'm sharing....

I took this picture at midnight from our balcony. Campers are soundly asleep.

What a joy to see them smiling early this morning.

Have a lovely month everyone!

Thanks to Peggy for hosting this meme where I get to meet many amazing women who share the same simple joys with me every week.
